About the Role

As a Marine Equipment Specialist at LNM1968, you'll be responsible for the setup, calibration, operation, and maintenance of sophisticated hydrographic survey equipment. You'll work on vessel platforms operating multibeam echo sounders, side-scan sonar systems, magnetometers, sub-bottom profilers, and motion compensation systems.

This role combines technical expertise with hands-on marine operations. You'll troubleshoot equipment issues, perform field calibrations, and work with hydrographers to collect high-quality bathymetric and seafloor imagery data for engineering and environmental projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, calibrate, and operate multibeam and single-beam echo sounders
  • Set up and maintain side-scan sonar and sub-bottom profiler systems
  • Configure and monitor IMU/GNSS positioning systems and motion sensors
  • Perform sound velocity profiling and water column calibrations
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues during survey operations
  • Maintain equipment inventory and coordinate repairs and servicing
  • Document equipment configurations and maintain calibration records
  • Train crew members on proper equipment handling and operation

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Marine Technology, Electronics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience with hydrographic survey equipment
  • Hands-on experience with multibeam sonar systems (Kongsberg, R2Sonic, Teledyne Reson)
  • Knowledge of marine positioning systems (GNSS, IMU, USBL)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electronic and mechanical systems
  • Ability to work in marine environments and tolerate vessel motion
  • Valid TWIC card for port facility access

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Hypack, Qinsy, or other hydrographic acquisition software
  • Familiarity with NOAA hydrographic survey specifications
  • Electronics technician certification or equivalent training
  • Experience with underwater acoustic theory and sound propagation
  • Background in marine geology or oceanography
